Itinerary

The **8-day Morocco Desert Tour** begins with an early pick-up from the airport or your accommodation in Marrakech. We then embark on a scenic drive through the captivating High Atlas mountains and the Tizi-N-Tichka pass, with stops along the way for panoramic views of the stunning landscapes. Our first destination is the Kasbah of Telouat, a historical fortress nestled in the mountains. We then continue to the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This iconic Kasbah has been featured in numerous movies, including Gladiator, Alexander, The Mummy, and TV series like Game Of Thrones. Next, we head to "The Gate of the Desert," Ouarzazate, where we will enjoy dinner and spend the night in a comfortable hotel.

On the second day, we embark on a journey from Ouarzazate to the enchanting Dades Valley, passing through picturesque landscapes and fascinating historical sites. After breakfast, our exploration of Ouarzazate begins with a visit to the Atlas Studios, where numerous famous movies were filmed. We then proceed to the Taourirt Kasbah, a fortified mud castle that stands as one of the oldest and most spectacular Ksars in Morocco. Continuing our journey eastward, we arrive at the Amridil Kasbah, nestled amidst lush palm groves in Skoura. From there, we make our way to Kalaa Magouna, renowned for its Rose Valley. Every May, the town hosts a Rose Festival where locals showcase their rose products, including perfumes, rose water, oils, and cosmetics. Our drive then takes us through Boumalne Dades, where we cannot resist stopping to admire the striking "monkey fingers" rock formation and enjoy panoramic views of the Dades Valley from a mountain vantage point. Finally, we conclude the day with dinner and an overnight stay at a hotel in Boumalne Dades.

After breakfast, our journey continues towards the Todra Gorges, where the Todra River has sculpted a magnificent canyon through the mountains, creating towering red cliffs that flank the canyon walls. Take your time to explore the gorges and marvel at the breathtaking landscape. We then drive through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad, with a break for lunch along the way. In the afternoon, we arrive at the Sahara Desert of Merzouga. Here, you will switch to camels and embark on a memorable journey across the sandy desert. Pause to witness the mesmerizing sunset from atop a towering dune, before continuing to our luxurious desert camp. At the camp, immerse yourself in the rich Berber culture as you enjoy traditional drum music and dance around the campfire beneath the vast, star-studded sky. Dinner will be served at the camp, where you will spend the night surrounded by the tranquility of the desert.

Awakening early in the morning is a must to behold the captivating sunrise amidst the desert landscape. After a serene moment, enjoy a leisurely breakfast before returning on camelback to Merzouga, where your driver awaits. Today, your Morocco desert tour is dedicated to exploring the diverse region of Merzouga, offering a plethora of remarkable sites ranging from majestic sand dunes and tranquil lakes to fascinating fossil areas and lush oases, perfect for outdoor activities. Our journey commences with an off-road drive to an ancient eyeliner mine, providing insight into the region's rich history. Following this, we visit a nomadic encampment, where you'll have the opportunity to interact with locals and learn about their traditional way of life over a cup of Berber tea. Next, we venture to the Khamlia village, renowned for its vibrant Gnaoua music and dance performances, a cultural experience not to be missed. Originating from sub-Saharan countries such as Mali, Sudan, and Niger, the inhabitants of Khamlia offer a captivating glimpse into their unique heritage. After enjoying a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, we embark on a tranquil stroll through a palm tree grove, before heading to the mesmerizing wild lake of Merzouga, also known as the flamingo lake, to marvel at its natural beauty. Conclude the day with dinner and an overnight stay in a comfortable hotel, reflecting on the myriad of memorable experiences encountered in the enchanting region of Merzouga.

After breakfast, we depart from the desert and head to Rissani town, the ancient capital of Tafilalet. Rissani remains a bustling trading center in the region, hosting a vibrant souk that comes to life on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Take a leisurely stroll through the souk, soaking in the lively atmosphere and exploring the array of goods available. Continuing our journey, we proceed to Erfoud, where we have the opportunity to visit one of the workshops specializing in fossilized marble. Witness the intricate craftsmanship and learn about the fascinating process of fossilization. Next, we travel along the picturesque Ziz River, pausing for a panoramic view of the Ziz Valley. Enjoy some free time for lunch in Midelt before continuing our adventure. Our journey then takes us to the cedar forest, home to the Barbary Macaques. Spend some time feeding these friendly creatures as you wander through the forest. Finally, we visit Ifrane, renowned for its cool temperatures, snowfall, and charming alpine-style houses, earning it the nickname "the Switzerland of Morocco." After exploring Ifrane, we will drop you off at your accommodation in Fes, concluding our memorable journey together.

After breakfast, we will pick you up from your accommodation in Fes to embark on a fascinating exploration of this historic city. Fes is renowned as one of Morocco's imperial cities and serves as a vibrant cultural and religious hub. Our day begins with a visit to the Royal Palace gate, followed by an exploration of the well-preserved medieval Medina, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will enter the Medina through the iconic Blue Gate, also known as Bab Boujloud. Accompanied by a knowledgeable local guide, we will delve into the heart of the Medina to discover its treasures, including the Medrasa Bouanania, the Najjarine Fountain, the Tanneries, and the Quaraouin Mosque and University—the oldest university in the world. After immersing ourselves in the Medina's rich history and culture, we will venture to the Jewish quarter, known as the Mellah. From there, we will drive to an ancient fortress, offering panoramic views of the Medina and the city of Fes. Finally, we will return you to your riad, concluding our enriching day of exploration in Fes.

After breakfast, we set off to explore Meknes, one of Morocco's imperial cities and the Ismaili capital. Our tour of Meknes includes visits to iconic landmarks such as Bab Al-Mansour, the Sahrij Souani basin, the Royal stables, the granary, and the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum. You'll have some free time for lunch to enjoy local cuisine at your leisure. Next, we drive approximately 30 km from Meknes to reach the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Volubilis boasts remarkable preservation, showcasing stunning mosaics, ancient pillars, and archways that offer a glimpse into its rich history. After exploring the ruins, our journey continues northwards through Ouazzane, leading us to the enchanting city of Chefchaouen nestled in the Rif Mountains. Known as the Blue City, Chefchaouen is famed for its picturesque blue-painted buildings and alleyways. We will spend the night in a hotel, allowing you to immerse yourself in the beauty and charm of this unique destination.

After breakfast, you'll have some free time to explore the charming alleyways of the Blue City at your leisure, depending on your flight schedule. Later, we'll embark on a scenic drive through the Rif Mountains en route to Tangier. Upon arrival in Tangier, we'll transfer you to the airport, marking the end of your memorable 8-day Morocco tour.
